The National Weather Service is warning of critical wildfire conditions as warm, dry and windy conditions return to Colorado.

The weather service issued red flag warnings for Sunday through 7 p.m. and again Monday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. as southwest winds ahead of a cold front move to west/northwest, with gusts up to around 45 mph expected.

Shifting winds could cause erratic fire behavior, according to a NWS statement.

Sunday’s high temperature will reach the low 60s before falling into the high 20s overnight.

The coming cold front will drop temperatures Monday, but strong and gusty northwest winds will again see a high danger of fire on the plains, forecasters said.

Forecasters expect the mercury to reach the mid-40s to start the week, with a low of around 21 Monday night into Tuesday.
