Side streets in the Denver metro area were snow-covered and icy early Monday morning following a storm that brought much-needed moisture to the Front Range.

Between 3 to 6 inches of snow fell in Denver Sunday night and Monday morning, with some southern suburbs getting between 8 and 12 inches of snow, according to Kyle Fredin, meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Boulder.

In the Denver metro area, Parker got the most snow at 12.1 inches of snow while Castle Rock recorded 11 inches, according to the weather service. Tiny Town, a miniature village of kid-sized buildings and a miniature railway near Morrison, received 15 inches of snow, the weather service says.

Mountain ski resort areas got between 3 to 6 inches of new snow, but could continue to get more light snow on Monday and through the week, Fredin said.

On Monday, it will be mostly cloudy in the Denver area with a high of around 44 degrees. Winds will gust up to 24 mph, the weather service says.

It will warm up through the remainder of the week with temperatures topping out at around 73 degrees in Denver by Thursday.

The next chance for rain is on Friday. But even on Friday, the high temperature will be near 72 degrees.

Sunshine is forecast for the weekend with highs in the upper 50s and lower 60s.
