New Broncos quarterback Case Keenum has played in 43 games and attempted 1,346 passes in his NFL career thatap spanned five seasons. None of those passes were thrown in Denver.

Keenum has never played a regular-season game against the Broncos, and interestingly enough, the last meaningful pass he threw in Colorado was an interception – picked off by one of his quarterbacks coaches ().

As a sophomore at the University of Houston in 2008, Keenum’s Cougars visited Fort Collins and trailed Colorado State 28-25 with 0:08 remaining in the game. Facing a third-and-6 from the Rams’ 15 yard line, CSU showed man coverage with freshman cornerback Gerard “Momo” Thomas (5-foot-9) lined up on the left side against L.J. Castile (6-3). Thomas, who was playing in only his second collegiate game, had struggled in coverage all day and it appeared Houston was getting a favorable matchup.

Keenum took the snap and saw Thomas just turn around and watch as Castile ran past him. Castile looked open, but as the ball was thrown his way, CSU safety Klint Kubiak seemingly came out of nowhere to intercept the pass in the end zone.

A perfectly designed bait-and-switch to seal the victory.

Kubiak, the son of Gark Kubiak, is now an assistant quarterbacks coach for the Broncos and will be working directly with Keenum, surely throwing in some light jabs about that game 10 years ago at Hughes Stadium throughout his teaching.
