Re: “GOP voters weren’t tricked by Cambridge Analytica,” March 29 letter to the editor.
The problem with Cambridge Analytica’s involvement in Colorado’s elections is not solely, as letter-writer Terry Holmes suggests, whether their machinations were effective or not. (CA clearly seems to think they were.)
As The Denver Post has reported, in 2014 and 2015 Colorado Republican organizations paid CA hundreds of thousands of dollars for what we now know were underhanded services involving data pilfered from millions of voters.
I assume — wouldn’t you? — those Colorado GOP customers of CA (identities hidden) certainly hoped and intended their money would pay to sway voters. Does Holmes think they were suckered?
Meanwhile, didn’t anyone ever smell something fishy?
I think I smell in all this muck an attempt to undermine American democracy.
And nope, I’m not ready to “get over” that.
