DURANGO — Authorities will temporarily relocate homeless residents following a fire in a Durango homeless camp.

The Durango Herald reports the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office will begin to move campers from the site north of the Durango Tech Center the week of May 1 to county-owned land about 200 yards northeast.

A La Plata County release says a small fire started Tuesday afternoon in a rotted log in the camp.

The release says the new location will serve as a temporary camp until the city of Durango establishes another location for homeless residents to sleep.
