The Rockies, apparently, can hit.

After one of the worst offensive months in club history in April, Colorado has started May sizzling hot, beating the Cubs at Wrigley on back-to-back nights to give fans reason to believe once again that a lineup that features Charlie Blackmon, Nolan Arenado and Carlos Gonzalez can be productive. April was a little touch-and-go there for a while.

Despite no DJ LeMahieu, who’s spending time on the DL, the Rockies went 19-of-73 (.260) at the plate in Chicago to start the week. Not an outlandish number by any means, but factor in the 15-of-43 (.348) mark Wednesday — and 3-of-12 with runners in scoring position, you start to smirk. In their previous five games combined before Wednesday, the Rockies went 4-of-29 with RISP.

Now let’s be reasonable. This two-game winning the streak Colorado is on is small potatoes, and teeing off on Yu Darvish is something every team he’s faced has done this year. But the Rockies needed something — anything — to jumpstart their offense. And this start to May could be it.
