The body of Gabriel Conde, the Berthoud soldier killed by Taliban fighters this week in Afghanistan, arrived at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware on Thursday.

Conde’s body was carried onto an aircraft earlier in the morning in a ramp ceremony in Afghanistan, said Major Christopher-James Hart, spokesman for the fallen soldier’s infantry brigade and division.
Conde, 22, was killed by small arms fire Monday in the Tagab district. A 2014 graduate of Berthoud High School, Conde had enlisted in 2015. when he was killed.
Conde served as a paratrooper assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 509th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division with U.S. Army at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska.
Lt. Col. Martin, public affairs officer for Resolute Support, provided more information on Conde’s role in the military, and the events that led to his death.
“(Conde) was killed in action by Taliban small arms fire, April 30,” he said in an email. “At the time of the incident, Spc. Conde was serving as a security enabler assigned to a special operations unit that was conducting operations with Afghan security forces against a Taliban facilitation network in Tagab district, Kapisa province.”
