Home away from home? The Rockies are thriving away from Coors Field early this baseball season.

Colorado is coming back to Coors Field from a 6-3 road trip, which finished on a five-game winning streak. On the road this season, the Rox are 15-8 — the most road wins out of any MLB team so far.

Historically, the franchise has not seen best of success away from Denver. The Rockies have only had two seasons with winning road records — both with 41-40 records in 2009 and 2017. But under Bud Black, that has seemingly changed. In 2017, Colorado jumped out to a franchise-best 24-10 start away from home by June 10 before stumbling to a 17-30 record the rest of the way.

A big part of this year’s success is due to a starting rotation that has combined for a 1.71 ERA over their last 11 starts, according to Patrick Saunders. Chad Bettis is the feel-good story of this early baseball season. Battling back from cancer — for a second time — he’s pitched lights out, compiling a 4-1 record with a 2.05 ERA in seven starts.

Colorado’s bats, however, have been surprisingly quiet. Entering Sunday’s game the Rox were batting .228, near the bottom of the majors, but were leading the National League in home runs. Nolan Arenado said on Thursday: “Itap good to hit the ball out of the ballpark, but we still have to have those quality at-bats.”

The Rockies begin a six-game homestand on Tuesday against the Angels and Brewers. Perhaps they’ll bring that winning charm home where they’re just 5-7 on the year.
