You can’t place legal bets on sports in Colorado today, but two years from now, expect the law in the Centennial State to be different. The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday wiped out a federal law that banned sports betting across the country outside of Nevada, now allowing states to create their own laws.
Colorado has long been considered a prime target for legalized sports gambling, but with general assembly of the state legislature out of session until 2019, nothing around here will change this year. That being said, if you want to put a few (or a few hundred) bucks on the Broncos to win the Super Bowl next season, there’s nothing prohibiting you from going to Las Vegas and placing that wager.
With gambling on the brain, here’s a look at how odds makers are liking Colorado teams next season:
- The Broncos have 40/1 odds to win the Super Bowl, which is tied with Kansas City for the worst in the AFC West. The Chargers have the best odds in the division at 22/1.
- Denver’s odds to win the AFC are 18/1, slightly worse than Kansas City at 16/1. Odds of the Broncos winning the AFC West are 11/4 (Chiefs are at 7/2).
- The Broncos’ over-under for the win total is 7, according to Bovada.
- If you want to go ahead and put money on the Broncos’ season opener vs. Seattle, Denver is favored by two points.
- The Rockies’ odds to win the World Series are 35/1, 15/1 to win the National League. Despite being eight games out of first place in the NL West, the Dodgers have better odds to win the World Series and the pennant at 20/1 and 9/1.
- In College football, Colorado has 500/1 odds to win the national championship. Colorado State is listed at 1200/1. (Air Force and Wyoming don’t make the cut.)
- And in college hoops, the Buffs are the only regional team with odds at the moment, coming in at 550/1.
