Every Saturday, it’s a mystery.
Will this be the weekend German playmaker Stefan Aigner returns to the Colorado Rapids lineup?
After all, he’s the fourth-highest paid player on the team, pulling in $850k this year, according to salary figures released last week by the MLS Players Union. He’s a creative attacker with Bundesliga pedigree. Certainly he could be on the field helping the second-lowest scoring team in the MLS’ Western Conference, right?
But somehow he’s found his way into new head coach Anthony Hudson’s doghouse. The two had a “less than harmonious conversation” in early April during a training session, according to , and Aigner hasn’t seen the field since.
Six games. No Aigner.
“Itap down to performance,” . “Me and him have been talking a lot, he knows what he needs to do, and we’re just waiting for him to do that.”
Coming into their match against league power New York City FC this weekend at Yankee Stadium, the Rapids are in nose-dive mode, having lost four games straight.
Aigner Watch 2018 continues live from the Bronx at 11 a.m. Saturday. Tune in…
