Greeley West teacher saves child from drowning while taking his class for ice cream

Greeley teacher Brian Holmes took his physical education class to a local park earlier this week en route to Baskins Robbins for a scoop to celebrate the end of the school year.

While walking around a pond in the middle of Sanborn Park, a half mile from Greeley West High School, Holmes and his students heard someone yelling for help. It was the brother of a little girl, Holmes guessed around 3 or 4, thrashing in the pond, her head barely above water. Holmes put the brother’s age near the same.

Holmes barreled into the pond, wallet and cell phone in his pockets, to retrieve the youngster. Holmes guessed the water was about 4 feet deep.

The children had apparently become separated from their grandmother.
