Afternoon storms could bring small hail, thunderstorms and rain to the Denver metro area on Tuesday, forecasters say.

There’s a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m., according to the forecast by the National Weather Service in Boulder. It will be mostly sunny, with a high temperature near 76.

“Most of the storms today will produce small hail, brief moderate rain, and lightning, although a stronger storm or two on the eastern plains will still be capable of producing 1 inch diameter hail and heavier rainfall,” the weather service says.

The chance for rain will diminish Tuesday night. The low temperature will be around 50 degrees.

There’s a greater chance for afternoon storms on Wednesday. The high temperature will be near 82 degrees.

It will be dry Thursday, Friday and most of the weekend. The highs will be 89 on Thursday, 88 on Friday and in the 80s on the weekend. There’s a chance of evening storms on Sunday.
