Getting your player ready...

If you’ve always wanted to say you tried out for the Olympics, here’s your chance.

In-person athlete tryouts will be held at select 24-Hour Fitness locations across America on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., including the , 15900 E. Briarwood Circle in Aurora.

Athletes who pass the first test will be invited to six-day national team training camps this summer at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. Sports participating in the program include bobsled, skeleton, boxing, canoe/kayak, cycling, rowing, rugby and weightlifting.

From that pool of approximately 100 athletes, one winner from each sport will be invited to join follow-up national team camps. Those eight people will be eligible to receive financial, training and medical support.

Olympic hopefuls also can skip the tryouts and apply online, outlining their athletic credentials. Last year, of the 91 athletes who participated in the first round of camps at the OTC, 16 came from 24- Hour Fitness Tryouts and two of them advanced to the final group of eight athletes. They were Amanda Alvarez of Seattle (skeleton) and Josh Williamson of Orlando (bobsled).

24-Hour Fitness is partnering with the U.S. Olympic Committee in the project. Last year, nearly 3,000 athletes applied online or tried out at 24-Hour Fitness gyms. Tests at the tryouts include a 30-meter sprint, pull-ups and a vertical jump.  to its gyms in case your quest to be discovered as an Olympic-caliber athlete reveals you’re not as fit as you thought.
