When Facebook announced plans in March to bring one of its free digital skills training events to Denver, it was still working on the details.
The social networking juggernaut knew that the Mile High City was a hot spot for small business and entrepreneurs that could benefit from some business guidance. But the company didn’t yet have a firm date, venue or curriculum in place.
That uncertainly was cleared up last week. Community Boost Denver will take over the Cable Center building, 2000 Buchtel Blvd., on June 18 and 19.
Facebook and local partners will offer hours of programming covering everything from the basics — one of the seminar sessions is “Getting started with Facebook” for people who many not be members of the site yet — to more high-level topics like setting online advertising objectives and using the website’s targeting options to achieve them.
“We have a variety of programming tailored for both small businesses and job seekers,” Facebook’s global marketing director for small business Doug Frisbie said in an interview with The Denver Post last month. “We also are also doing training on other, broader business topics … like financial readiness, back office, people and HR, so we can give business those skills as well. The training is free and open to everyone.”
By partnering with local groups, Facebook aims to ensure training continues after the Community Boost show moves on to the next city in its 30-stop tour, Frisbie said. The event will feature a “learning bar,” similar to an Apple Genius Bar, where attendees can ask questions and receive one-on-one help from Facebook staffers.
Facebook has increased its footprint in Denver this year. The company got zoning approval from the city in March to work on 22,800 square feet of office space in a tower in the Central Platte Valley portion of downtown. Its in Denver at the moment.
