A 41-year-old man has been arrested for investigation of first-degree assault of a police officer, menacing and throwing “missiles” from his pickup truck after he bolted from a traffic stop and at one point intentionally backed into a Weld County deputy’s squad car.
Joseph Hall, 41, of Fort Lupton also has been arrested for investigation of criminal mischief, criminal impersonation, reckless driving, vehicular eluding and driving on a revoked license.
At 6:03 p.m. Wednesday, a deputy stopped a light-yellow Ford F-150 pickup truck for speeding on Weld County Road 46 at Weld County Road 45 near LaSalle, according to a Weld County Sheriff’s Department news release.
When the truck stopped, two passengers climbed out to care for their dog and spoke with another deputy at the scene, the news release says.
Hall allegedly gave a deputy a false name and had no Colorado identification. He became agitated and hostile, then placed the truck in drive and sped away, abandoning his passengers.
A short pursuit ensued during which Hall allegedly drove recklessly and tossed objects out the truck’s window. Hall then slammed his brakes, put the truck in reverse and rammed into the front of the deputy’s patrol car, causing damage. The deputy was not injured.
Hall allegedly took off again, recklessly driving eastbound on Weld County Road 44. He “attempted to strike two oncoming vehicles,” the news release says. The deputy stopped the chase because it was too dangerous.
At about 7:30 p.m., Fort Lupton police chased Hall and arrested him.
