A rollover crash on Interstate 25 that caused a hazardous materials fuel spill on the highway injured four people and closed roads for much of Thursday, Denver police confirmed.

Just before 2 p.m., the Colorado Department of Transportation announced that the tanker truck that had rolled and spilled fuel along the road was removed from the highway at Park Avenue.

“Some cleanup still remains,” CDOT wrote in a tweet. “Then crews will need to inspect the road for any damage.”

The crash involved five vehicles, and four people have been taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, according to the Denver Police Department.

All lanes of northbound I-25 were closed between Park Avenue West and Interstate 70 for more than six hours.

Details about what caused the crash were not immediately released.

The Denver Fire Department worked with CDOT to control the fuel leak. Crews applied a foam blanket to control fuel vapors, according to a tweet from the Denver Fire Department.

Police advised commuters to find alternate routes.

The Regional Transportation District said bus lines also were affected by the crash. The Flatiron Flyer, Longmont route (LD), Wagon Road to Thornton Express (120X), Wagon Road to Civic Center Express (122X) and several other lines that begin their trips from downtown are being detoured.

“Please check your stop on for any delays,” read an RTD tweet.
