In the 1993 MLB All-Star Game, . Kruk grabbed his jersey, and mimed heart palpitations before taking two quick strikes and exiting the at-bat.

In 1997, Johnson did it again — . In the second inning, Johnson launched a fastball well over Walker’s head. The Colorado lefty headed back to the plate, turned his helmet backward and took the next pitch as a right-handed batter.

“I didn’t even know if I was allowed to do that,” Walker told The Denver Post’s Jerry Crasnick after the game. “I looked like Colonel Klink out there.”

Crasnick wrote:

Everyone from Bobby Cox to Joe Torre to Pudge Rodriguez suggested that Walker and Johnson — old buddies from their Montreal days — cooked up the entire scheme. But the two players bit their lips and claimed the incident was for real.

“It was kind of humid out there,” Johnson said. “The ball just slipped out of my hand. Since when have I mastered control?

“I’m sorry it happened to Larry. But if it had to happen, who’s a more fitting guy to have it happen to?”

Some other Rockies all-star game notes:
