Brighton juvenile detention center counselor accused of sexually assaulting young inmate for years

A counselor at a Brighton juvenile detention center is charged with sexual assault on a child related to contact with a juvenile inmate at the facility, according to a 17th Judicial District news release on Friday.

Michelle Sarillo is accused of sexually assaulting a young inmate while Sarillo worked as a counselor at a Brighton juvenile detention facility.

Michelle Theresa Sarillo, 29, is charged with one count of sexual assault on a child by a person in position of trust and one count of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust as a pattern of abuse.

The alleged assaults happened between Sept. 26, 2015 and Feb. 15, 2017 when Sarillo was a counselor at the Adams County Youth Services Center, according to the news release.

The juvenile just turned 16 when the assaults began.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Sarillo on July 24 at 1:30 p.m. Sarillo’s bond is set at $20,000.
