A 31-year-old man is accused of stealing phones from Target with a knife and then leading Boulder police on a foot chase in the Walnut Street area Monday afternoon.
David Michael Roman was arrested on suspicion of theft, a misdemeanor, as well as three additional counts of theft for previous shoplifting incidents.
Staff at the Target at 2800 Pearl St. said that Roman had used a knife to cut cell phones from their displays, according to Sgt. Alastair McNiven. Staff didn’t follow Roman because he had a knife.
Roman led police on a foot chase, according to McNiven. When police caught up with him, McNiven said Roman put his knife up to his own throat.
Employees at the Walnut Business Center, where the pursuit ended, were asked to stay away from the windows so they wouldn’t excite Roman.
