A husband allegedly mistakenly shot his wife late Friday night in Castle Rock, believing her to be a home intruder, police confirmed.

The woman, who has not been identified, was shot in the abdomen but is expected to survive, said Castle Rock police spokesman Joe Cybert. He did not know the woman’s condition Saturday morning.

The shooting happened about 10 p.m. in the 600 block of Howe Street.

Cybert said he doesn’t know what led the husband to believe his wife was a home intruder other than that the man, who has not been identified, heard a noise and thought someone was breaking in.

No charges have been filed in the incident, and police have not ruled out foul play and the investigation is ongoing.
