A 48-year-old Boulder woman was sentenced Thursday to 10 years in federal prison for selling heroin, which a user fatally overdosed on.

Kirsten Lippold was sentenced in Denver by U.S. District Judge Raymond P. Moore. Lippold also was sentenced to five years of supervised release after she serves her prison term.

Lippold was indicted by a federal grand jury on July 13, 2017.  She pleaded guilty on May 9 to distribution of heroin resulting in death, according to the Colorado U.S. attorney’s office.

Lippold sold less than a gram of heroin to a person in Boulder who overdosed and died in August 2015. She has prior felony drug convictions.

“If you are selling even small amounts of heroin in Colorado, know this: Any one of your sales could kill someone,” said U.S. Attorney Bob Troyer. “If you don’t care about that, maybe you’ll care about this: You will face mandatory minimum sentences in federal prison, out of state, no parole.”

The criminal investigation was conducted by the Boulder County Drug Task Force, Boulder Police Department and the FBI.
