A man armed with a knife is suspected to have been the cause of a Greyhound bus crash along Interstate 25 Monday night.
Officers from the Fountain Police Department arrested Edmundo Arellanes-Audelo, 47, on the interstate near South Academy Boulevard. Arellanes-Audelo faces charges of felony menacing with a weapon, assault, reckless endangerment, felony criminal mischief and hindering public transportation, according to a press release.
The bus reportedly was headed to Denver when Arellanes-Audelo allegedly threatened both the driver and his fellow passengers with a knife.
“He gained access into the secured area of the bus and attempted to attack the driver while purposely grabbing the steering wheel,” according to Fountain Police.
After the bus crashed, a passenger reportedly confronted Arellanes-Audelo and he attempted to flee by breaking one of the bus’ windows.
An armed passer-by confronted him as he exited the bus, police said. The passer-by reportedly showed Arellanes-Audelo his gun, convinced him to drop the knife and held him until police arrived.
Some of the passengers reported minor injuries from the crash, according to police.
