A Boulder County jury on Wednesday found a man accused in the 2016 death of another man in a north Boulder trailer park guilty of murder, believing prosecutors who said in closing arguments that he had not acted in self-defense.

Cody Nelson, 53, was convicted of one count of first-degree murder in the shooting death of Andrew “Drew” Duncan, 31, at a mobile home park at 4475 N. Broadway on Feb. 5, 2016.

The jury rendered its verdict after deliberating nearly two and half hours.

In their closing arguments earlier Wednesday that capped seven days of testimony, both prosecutors and defense attorneys agreed that Nelson shot Duncan 11 times, killing him. But while prosecutors said it was a murder, defense attorney Jennifer Engelmann said Nelson was trying to defend himself and a woman, Miriam Nayeh, from Duncan.

“What this case is about is perception,” Engelmann said. “What you have are two different sides looking at the same thing and seeing something different.”
