Beyond his music, rap legend Tupac Shakur is also well known for a multitude of iconic portraits, one of which ties in to the Rockies’ 2018 playoff chase.

Most Colorado baseball die-hards have seenof Tupac in a white MLB hat and a Rockies-themed shirt that proclaimed in all caps, “Catch The Fever”.

Several decades after the rapper’s death, the message made a resurgence in the Rocky Mountain region last season after Colorado first baseman Ian Desmond came across the image and had identical .

And this year, as the Rockies have battled their way into position to potentially win the franchise’s first divisional title, the shirt’s catchphrase is all the more apropos.

But where, when and why was the rapper repping the Rockies?

Turns out,the ,when Tupac performed at the KUBE 93.3 FM Summer Jam at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds in Monroe, Washington.

And the iconic image that Rockies’ fans have fallen in love with — of Tupac in the outfit and holding a Pizza Hut box partially covered by what appears to be a white towel — was originally a fan photo, as an unidentified woman next to Tupacwas .

Whether or not Tupac was an actual supporter of the then-infant Colorado franchise remains a mystery, and I haven’t been able to garner any further clues on the matter from extended listens to Makaveli’s five posthumous albums.

Want the shirt for yourself? It’s not available in Rockies’ Dugout Stores, but you can on the internetor as part of the team’sgame against the Dodgers.
