A shooting outside a 7-11 in Aurora on Sunday left one person dead and several others hospitalized — and the police are stumped.

“We don’t have anybody. Nobody is in custody. But we’re working on it. We do not believe there is any threat to the public,” Aurora police spokesman Ken Forrest said.

The police were dispatched to the scene at 13690 East Alameda Ave. — near the intersection with South Potomac Street — at 1:38 p.m. after a caller notified them of the shooting.

Police arrived and determined there had been a shooting, Forrest said. Officers also learned that victims apparently drove themselves to a hospital.

“They did not arrive via ambulance,” Forrest said. “We have multiple victims.”

Police declined to reveal ages of the victims, whether they are male or female, the number of victims or the hospital.

There’s no immediate evidence of a robbery, Forrest said. Police have no idea what led to the shooting, he said.

The city’s major crimes unit took over the investigation. Officers planned to interview victims and witnesses.

Aurora police officials issued a press release saying “detectives are working tirelessly to identify who is responsible for the shooting.” It said public should report “any known information” to Detective Chad Lampson (303-739-6013) and that people providing tips can do so anonymously and be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.
