August turned out to be a record-setting month in the lovey-dovey department in Denver, with the most marriage licenses issued in a single month in the city’s history.

The clerk’s office issued 1,123 licenses to couples last month, besting the previous record: 985 licenses issued in August 2017.

The summer matrimony surge followed a decline in licenses issued during the first three months of 2018. But as temperatures rose, so did Denverites’ passions. May, June, July and August all boasted new monthly records for Denver marriage licenses.

Last year was the busiest year on record for marriage licenses in Denver, with the clerk’s office issuing 8,406. The city began issuing licenses to same-sex couples in 2014.
