As a heat wave continues to roast the Denver metro area, communities in northwest Colorado have to worry about increased fire danger Thursday.

The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for north central Colorado Thursday because of gusty winds and very dry conditions.

Winds could gust to 40 mph over portions of Jackson, Grand, Summit and Lamar counties.

Temperatures will rise into the lower 90s through Sunday, the NWS says. It will be sunny and clear each day.

A slight cool down is expected Monday, when the high temperature will stay just below 90 degrees.

Temperatures will drop on Tuesday. The high will be around 83 degrees.
