Six weeks after an apartment explosion rocked the Baker neighborhood in Denver — injuring nine people, including one who remains hospitalized — fire investigators still have not determined the cause of the blast.

Denver Fire Department spokesman Greg Pixley said Wednesday that investigators still are waiting to speak with one of the most seriously injured victims of the explosion. This person, Pixley said, remains in the hospital and is not yet able to speak to investigators.

He added that the fire department is “still performing interviews as we can get the manpower.”

The Aug. 14 explosion leveled a multiplex residential building in the 400 block of Santa Fe Drive. A gaping hole revealed a pile of rubble containing bricks, wooden beams and debris where a six-unit building once stood.

Xcel Energy spokeswoman Michelle Aguayo said Wednesday that the utility company “investigated all of our system, and our system was not involved” in the explosion.
