BRECKENRIDGE — The huge wooden troll that once stood guard next to a Breckenridge trail will have a new home when he’s reincarnated this spring.

Danish artist Thomas Dambo will return to Breckenridge in May to rebuild the troll, named Isak Heartstone, on a piece of land near the ice arena near downtown, town officials announced Monday.

The 15-foot troll was erected beside a trail last summer for a festival, but it was so popular that nearby homeowners complained about all the foot traffic. It was taken down in November.

Rebuilding should get underway around May 5 and will take about two weeks using new material and pieces saved from the original location. The cost to rebuild Isak is estimated to be around $20,000, which will be split between the town of Breckenridge and BRECKcreate.
