The Boulder County District Attorney’s Office has ruled Longmont police were justified in the fatal shooting of a wanted man outside a movie theater earlier this fall.

In a letter released Monday, Boulder County District Attorney Michael Dougherty said that no charges will be filed against the two officers who shot and killed Gillie Thurby III, 28.

Longmont police have not named the officers in this case, and the DA’s Office also took the unusual step of not identifying them in the report due to “repeated and numerous threats against members of the Longmont Police Department related to this incident, by individuals connected to Mr. Thurby.”

Three officers were called to the Regal Cinema movie theater in the Village at the Peaks shopping center on Sept. 20 after a witness with a protection order against Thurby spotted him.
