A snow storm is headed to Denver and the high country that will usher in much cooler temperatures, forecasters say.

The high temperature Thursday will be around 52 degrees, or 5 degrees lower than Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.

It will continue to snow in the mountains at least through Sunday, according to the forecast. Roads are icy and snow-covered in the mountains.

It will be even colder on Friday in Denver with a high of around 40 degrees.

A mix of rain and snow is forecast Friday, then only snow after 3 p.m. Little or no snow accumulation is expected, the NWS says.

It will be mostly cloudy on Saturday in Denver with a high temperature of around 44 degrees.

Another wave of snow is forecast for Denver on Sunday. The high temperature will be right at freezing.

High temperatures will be in the low-to-upper 30s through Wednesday of next week, the weather service says.
