A Denver family returned home Tuesday night after their great-grandmother’s wake and found that a driver had crashed a car into their garden-level apartment.

The grey Ford sedan crashed through the window of the Elyria-Swansea apartment in the 4600 block of High Street about 6 p.m. Tuesday, Denver Fire Department spokesman Greg Pixley said.

Traffic had delayed the family’s return from the funeral, he said.

“Lucky for them, if they have been home at that time they could’ve been injured,” Pixley said.

Nobody was hurt in the crash, Denver Police spokesman Jay Casillas said. The driver of the sedan had been in an argument before she got into her car and backed into the apartment, he said.

The woman walked away from the crash but later returned while officers were still at the scene. She was cited for careless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and failing to report a crash, Casillas said.

The family had planned to bake cookies when they returned home, Pixley said. They did not.

A man, reportedly naked, crashed his car into an Arapahoe County apartment building last week. In other similar incidents this month, drivers have crashed cars into an Edgewater home, a Denver restaurant and a Littleton church.
