Nobody was injured Sunday morning when an elderly woman drove her car through the glass windows of a Littleton church just before services were about to begin.

The accidental crash happened at about 8:43 a.m. at South Suburban Christian Church on Broadway, said Eric Hurst, South Metro Fire Rescue spokesman. The driver destroyed a set of windows when the sedan entered the church’s sanctuary, but there was no other structural damage to the building, he said.

“It was an elderly driver and it was just an accident that happened,” Hurst said.

There were people inside the sanctuary when the crash happened but nobody was injured.

“The people weren’t near the glass that broke when the car came through,” Hurst said.

The church’s traditional Sunday service begins at 9 a.m., .

The woman driving was likely headed to attend services when she drove into the building, Hurst said.
