Eight horses were killed Saturday afternoon in Commerce City after a barn caught fire, according to the South Adams Fire Department.

Fire crews responded at 12:21 p.m. to the fire at 83rd Avenue and Pontiac Street. The structure was a loss, the fire department said in the tweet.

One small, unknown animal was also killed, the department said. There were no human injuries,  and cause of the fire is under investigation.

South Adams Fire did not immediately respond for comment.
