There will, unfortunately, be no white Christmas for folks in Denver and the mountains this year.

But despite the lack of classic holiday charm, Christmas Day looks to be a pleasant one with no travel concerns, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures will be mild — 40-45 degrees on the plains and 20-35 degrees in the mountains. A cloudy morning in the metro area is expected to turn sunny in the afternoon. In the mountains, a light morning snow shower is possible.

It’s just after the holiday that a winter storm will make its way into the state. Heavy snow, strong winds and blowing snow is likely to impact travel across the eastern plains late Wednesday into Thursday. A winter storm watch has been issued for the eastern plains along/east of a line from Sterling to Limon, with 4-8 inches of snow possible.

The urban corridor is likely is expected to see minor impacts from the storm, forecasters say.
