All of a sudden December feels like December. The temperature in the metro area dropped to just 5 degrees overnight, the coldest reading so far this month, after hitting just 22 degrees for the high Friday.
But warmer weather is in store for the weekend, with the high expected to reach 40 Saturday and as high of 50 Sunday.
Then it’s back to more layers and warmer coats for the start of the week. New Year’s Eve revelers will likely have to bundle up. A storm system and cold front are expected to move into the metro area Sunday night, when there will be a 30 percent chance of snow. Monday’s high temperature will be 21 degrees and the New Year’s Eve low could dip to 3 below zero with a 20 percent chance of snow.
“Late Sunday night there’s a chance for some snow and colder temperatures,” said Kyle Fredin, meteorologist in the National Weather Service’s Boulder office. “New Year’s morning could be around zero. But we’ve had a warm month. We’re due.”
New Year’s Day will be slightly warmer at 25 degrees and sunny.
The cold front is forecast to bring measurable snow amounts to Colorado’s northern and northwestern mountains early Sunday and continuing through the day.
