A snowstorm that left a relatively small amount of snow on the ground in most of the Denver Metro area left behind frigid, below zero temperatures for the first day of 2019.

Denver residents awoke to below zero temperatures on New Year’s Day. Wind chill values made the air feel like minus 15 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.

Some parts of the Denver metro area could get more snow until around 8 a.m. on Tuesday.

On Tuesday night, the low is expected to be slightly higher at 5 degrees, the NWS says.

A dramatic warm up is ahead in Denver, with sunny weather and a high temperature of 40 degrees on Wednesday.

Temperatures will continue to rise through the middle of the week. The highs on Friday and Saturday will be in the mid 50s, according to NWS forecasters.

High temperatures in Denver during the first part of next week will be in the low 50s.
