Denver will begin to warm up Thursday under partly-sunny skies while snow continues piling up in the high country of the Colorado Rockies.

The freezing fog will dissipate before 9 a.m. in Denver, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder. It will be partly sunny with a high near 47 degrees.

It snowed heavily in the mountains late Wednesday and early Thursday, triggering more avalanches and creating travel nightmares including the closure in both directions of Interstate 70 at Vail Pass.

Snow will continue falling Thursday in the mountains in moderate to heavy amounts, the NWS says.

Travelers should be aware of whiteout conditions in the mountains as west winds gust up to 50 mph.

On Friday it could rain and then snow in Denver during the afternoon and evening, the NWS says. Little or no snow accumulation is expected.

The weekend will be mostly sunny with high temperatures in the lower 40s, the NWS says.

Snow and rain showers are possible in Denver on Monday and Tuesday.
