Even as road crews dig out a succession of heavy snowstorms that triggered numerous avalanches, another powerful winter storm approaches the Colorado mountains, forecasters say.

Snow will begin to fall across the Colorado Rockies Friday afternoon. Before it moves on it will have dumped another 6 to 14 inches of new snow in the mountains, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.

Even Denver, which has been spared the brunt of Colorado’s winter storms, could get some snow, but likely not enough to measure, the NWS says.

Scattered rain, snow, and thunderstorms are possible in Denver, mainly after 2 p.m., the weather service says. The chance of precipitation is 30 percent until around 11 p.m.

Sunny skies are forecast for Saturday in Denver. The high temperature will be around 47 degrees. It will be breezy at times, with gusts up to 36 mph.

It will be partly sunny on Sunday, with a high temperature near 43 degrees, the NWS says.

A mix of rain and snow showers is possible Monday and Tuesday in Denver.
