Was Sen. Cory Gardnerās vote worthy of disapproval?
Re: āEndorsement of Cory Gardner was a mistake,ā March 15 editorial
Your publishing of the off-the-shelf Post editorial āEndorsement of Cory Gardner was a mistakeā and two other similar reader comments shows this paperās blatant bias and willingness to participate in character assault of an elected official carrying out his responsibilities.
Sen. Gardner, knowing of President Donald Trumpās intent to veto the resolution and the lack of votes to override such a veto, could have hidden from the special interests and vocal opposition by taking a safe vote against it as so many politicians do these days.
Instead, Gardner took the difficult vote consistent with his conservative base knowing it would be unpopular with the special interests and liberal left. It¶¶Ņõap ironic that you criticize his integrity when it fails to follow your interest on this issue, an issue best left to the courts as opposed to a struggling newspaperās editorial board.
Steve Tillman, Parker
Mr. Gardner, has one more chance to vote in favor of our U.S. Constitution by voting to override Trumpās veto on his national emergency declaration. Not everyone gets a second chance to rectify a mistake as large as this is; so, hereās your chance. Your voters are watching!
Bill Hodges, Castle Pines
Your editorial was a welcome one. Yet you didnāt say that Cory Gardner had contributed, perhaps, to the recognizing of dictatorial government in the United States as opposed to representative government.
The latter ā our āAmerican experimentā ā has been under attack by corporations, right-wing organizations, and Republican politicians for nearly fifty years. Your endorsements of Cory Gardner, Mike Coffman, and George W. Bush (years ago) indicate there is a serious history deficiency in The Post¶¶Ņõap editorial room, as well as a failure to recognize the goals of our two major parties.
Example: Your reference to Barack Obamaās āoverreach.ā For eight years, congressional Republicans refused to recognize him as president. Do their actions and inactions then not tell you something about Republican politicians and their goal for America?
Are you part of the āboth-sides-do-itā lie?
Daniel W. Brickley, Littleton
I believe that you disavowed Cory Gardner not for his vote, but because he voted for the immigration funding. You are too obvious in your hatred and desire to get rid of Trump.
I worked at The Post for five years during the era of real journalists, Olga Curtis, Bob Whearley, Bill Hosokawa, Jack Guinn, etc. What would they say about your current goals today? Would they appreciate and cheer you on toward your sleazy goal of ruining President Trump?
Iām ashamed of you and your current policies to toss fairness out the window and attack anything moderate.
Nancy Hansford, Fort Collins
Your editorial was right on target. Mr. Gardner has no backbone and thinks only of being re-elected. He forgets that moderate Republicans like me will never vote for him again.
