Isotopes 7, Rockies 3
Monday at Isotopes Park, Albuquerque, New Mexico
On the mound: Right-hander Peter Lambert yielded two runs over five innings with seven strikeouts, while Chi Chi Gonzalez went 4 ⅔ for Colorado while allowing four earned on six hits and a couple walks … and combined for three scoreless outs, but got hit for a three-run-bomb by catcher Dom Nunez.
At the plate: Brian Mundell gave the Isotopes the early lead with a first-inning RBI single, and Yonathan Daza added another RBI knock in the third to increase the home team advantage to 2-0 … and both hit solo homers off Lambert in the fourth, but the Isotopes came right back with RBIs by Drew Weeks and Nunez in the bottom of the frame before Nunez’s two-run homer in the sixth opened up the game for Albuquerque.
Worth noting: After a solid Cactus League season Lambert again lived up to his billing as the organization’s top pitching prospect, especially through the first three innings when he didn’t allow a hit and K’d five Colorado batters, including and to start the game. That bodes well for the 21-year-old’s future in LoDo, which could be as immediate as this season.
