The man accused of taking a 1-year-old child away from his mother in Cheyenne is awaiting extradition to Wyoming on charges of interference with child custody and two counts of aggravated assault against a pregnant woman.
The charges were announced Friday morning by the Cheyenne Police Department, which also released more details about what led to a multi-state Amber Alert late Thursday evening.
Police said Mijito Johnson, 26, hit his girlfriend multiple times before taking the woman’s 1-year-old child from her arms and fleeing to his brother’s house in Colorado.
Aurora Police Department officers eventually found the suspectap abandoned vehicle in a parking lot at an Aurora mall and took him into custody a short distance away at his brother’s home.
