U.S. 6 in Clear Creek Canyon will close nightly for fives nights starting Sunday as crews make emergency repairs to tunnels in the area.

The road will be closed between Highway 119 and Highway 93 near Golden from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, Colorado Department of Transportation officials said in a news release.

“The closures are to conduct emergency tunnel repair work as a result of recent tunnel inspections,” according to the news release. “The Federal Highway Administration mandates biennial tunnel inspections to ensure safe traveling through the tunnels.”

Transportation officials said drivers should use Interstate 70 instead. People traveling to Black Hawk and Central City can use Central City Parkway or Highway 119.
