A man shot dead Sunday morning in southwest Denver has been identified.

Michael Magallanes, 27, was pronounced dead in the 5100 block of Morrison Road, according to the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner. Magallanes died of a gunshot wound and his manner of death is a homicide.

Police responded to the shooting at about 6 a.m. and interviewed witnesses at the scene. No information on a suspect has been released.

Magallanes’ shooting happened less than two hours after a nearby fatal shooting, about two miles away, in Lakewood. The triple shooting near West Florida Avenue and South Yarrow Street left one teen — 17-year-old Daniel Avila —  dead and two people wounded. Another person in the Lakewood incident was assaulted, police said.

Denver and Lakewood police have not connected the two incidents.
