Soft southwesterly breezes and mostly clear skies will make for a pleasant spring day along the Front Range while thunder, hail and isolated heavy downpours are expected in the foothills and mountains, according to national weather forecasters.

Under mostly sunny skies the high temperature will be around 81 degrees in Denver, said the National Weather Service in Boulder. Winds out of the west will be 5 to 9 mph, with gusts up to 16 mph.

Thunderstorms in the foothills, along the western Palmer Divide and the mountains could produce heavy rain in some areas, small hail and lightning strikes, the weather service said. As much as an inch of rain could fall within an hour, the NWS says.

It’ll be warmer Friday, but rain showers and thunderstorms are also part of the day’s NWS forecast. The high temperature is expected to reach 85 degrees.

There’s a slight chance of showers in the morning, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms Friday afternoon. Increasing clouds, with a high near 85. The chance of precipitation is 40 percent, the NWS said.

Isolated rain showers are forecast Saturday afternoon, when the high temperature will be around 80 degrees, forecasters said. The chance for rain and thunderstorms Saturday night is 40 percent.

It will be much cooler on Sunday, when another round of afternoon rain and thunderstorms are expected. The high temperature will be only around 64 degrees.

Thunderstorms are expected every day during the next work week through Wednesday, according to the NWS. Through Wednesday the highs will be in the 70s.
