A suspect turned himself in to Golden police after he allegedly shot a man who tried to intervene during a fight in a Golden condominium parking lot Thursday, police said.

The victim, who was shot in the hip, remains at a hospital receiving care but is expected to survive, said Karlyn Tilley, Golden police spokeswoman.

The suspect and numerous witnesses are now cooperating with the police investigation, Tilley’s news release said.

The victim told police he pulled into the parking lot of the Golden Ridge Condominiums about noon and heard two men fighting with a woman. The man told police that he exchanged words with one of the suspects, who fired twice at him.

The name of the suspect has not been released.

“There were many witnesses to this event, and the witnesses have been very helpful in helping Golden police track down the people involved so quickly. There is no concern for public safety,” the news release said.

The investigation continues. It is unclear at this time what roles each person played in the incident or who was the primary aggressor.

The victim, who said he didn’t know the suspects, was hit once in his right hip, police said.

Golden Deputy Police Chief Joe Harvey said officers believe at least six people, including two women, might have been involved in the altercation.
