Denver weather: Scattered thunderstorms, high winds forecast on Sunday

The mountains and plains are expected to see high winds, with possible hail in the plains

Scattered thunderstorms and high winds are expected in the Denver metro area Sunday, with scattered thunderstorms and possible hail in the plains, according to the National Weather Service.

Denverites can expect to see the largest chance of showers and thunderstorms in the evening. The forecast calls for a high of 87 degrees and wind gusts as high as 17 mph in the afternoon and up to 20 mph in the evening, the weather service said. The low on Sunday is expected near 59 degrees.

Similar weather patterns are expected the rest of the week, with highs in the 90s on Tuesday and Thursday, according to the weather service.

The hazardous weather outlook for northeast and north central Colorado cautions of scattered thunderstorms throughout the mountains and plains Sunday with one storm in the plains bringing wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail up to 1-inch in diameter.
