If you and your horse have ever tried to cross the road and realized you couldn’t reach the crosswalk button, fear not. In Larimer County, there’s at least one crossing you’ll be able to ride through safely.

Fort Collins and Larimer County installed their first equestrian button at the Poudre Trail crossing at Taft Hill Road, city officials announced Monday on Twitter. The button is higher up on the pole than typical crosswalk buttons.

“Horseback riders can now activate the flashing beacons for crossing without dismounting,” the tweet said.

This improvement may prevent an accident similar to one a Reddit user observed when a rider was trying to use a regular crosswalk button a few years ago. “The horse decided it didn’t want to wait and the guy ended up nearly upside down hanging onto the pole and calling the horse names. They weren’t very nice names,” the user wrote.
