A feisty rain storm could cause isolated flooding, drop small hail and bring strong winds Thursday in the Denver metro area, National Weather Service forecasters said.

It is expected to be cooler Thursday than it has been the past week, with a high temperature of around 85 degrees in downtown Denver, the NWS in Boulder said.

Rain showers are likely in the afternoon. The chance for precipitation is about 60 percent, mainly before midnight. Winds could gust up to 20 mph, forecasters said.

Rainfall rates of 2 inches per hour could trigger localized flooding. Small hail is also possible, the NWS said.

Monsoonal storms are also expected Friday and through the weekend, the NWS said.

The chance for rain will increase from 40 percent Friday afternoon to 50 percent at night.

Rain showers are likely both Saturday and Sunday when temperatures will rise to the upper 80s, the NWS said.

Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are also expected the first part of the next work week, when high temperatures will range from about 87 to 90 degrees between Monday and Wednesday, the NWS said.
