This week, Denverites will be able to see a rare occurrence: a full moon will appear on Friday the 13th.

This particular convergence of time and space is rare, happening only about once every 20 years, according to .

It’s the last full moon in summer before the autumnal equinox, said Kyle Fredin, meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Boulder.

This year’s large moonscape is also the “harvest moon,” the almanac said. The harvest moon gets its name because a full, bright moon often lights the sky, helping farmers harvest their crops in the evening.

“Maybe Friday night is a good night to look at the moon. It’s looking like we’ll have blue skies in the day and clear skies at night,” Fredin said. “It’s looking pretty nice.”
